If you want to see the river when you are in London then it is a great idea to go to Waterloo Station area and see it from there. There are a number of boat trips going from there, where you can either do a general sight seeing trip, use the ferry or take a river cruise with a meal. The sight seeing trips tend to have commentary so you can find out about the history, bridges, river and buildings that you pass along the way. It might be worth booking in advance for some of these to ensure that you can get on at the time that you want to go.

There is nothing like the slow pace of going along the river which is a massive contrast to the fast pace of the city where everything is urgent; the traffic, pedestrians and even the pigeons seem to be in a massive hurry. There are a selection of commuters who use the river but if you avoid these peak travel times then you will be able to really relax, slow down and enjoy yourself while floating on a river in the most famous city in England.

When you get back on dry land do not forget to pop back to Waterloo Station to pick up your hire car so that you can see the rest of the city. It will mean joining that fast pace traffic but without joining in you will never get to properly experience what city life is like.
